Orientalist

After Napoleon's expedition to Egypt and the discovery of the Rosetta Stone at the end of the 18th century, many painters found their inspiration in the East in the 19th century as well as at the beginning of the 20th century. Mainly orientalist paintings represents the landcapes of Maghreb countries (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco), Egypt, the Ottoman Empire and the Levant (Lebanon, Syria and Palestine).
